WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

Lake Cairn Curran Vineyard is a historic rural property located on the banks of the Loddon River at Welshman’s Reef, near Castlemaine, in the south of the Bendigo Region of Central Victoria.

Recognised as a 4.5 Star winery by James Halliday in his '2008 Australian Wine Companion', our wines are Estate and Organically grown.

The 4.5 Hectare Vineyard was established in 1987 at ‘Park Hill’, the original homestead of the Tarrengower Run (C1840), and grapes were sold to Hanging Rock for sparkling wines. In 1999 the Ferguson family purchased the historic property to produce Estate grown wines from the mature vines and to establish Shiraz grapes renowned in Central Victoria.

Since 2003 we have produced premium cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz wines under our Lake Cairn Curran Vineyard label. Our table wines are typically elegant style with lively fruit and discrete quality oak influence, expressing prominent varietal and individual character.

Building on the vineyard's sparkling pedigree, we are excited to have released our first Sparkling Blanc de Blanc. Our '06 'fizz' is a dry apertif style 100% Chardonnay wine produced by the French methode tradtionale.

Our current release wines also include our 2005 'Sur Lees' Chardonnay (rated 92/100 in Halliday's 2008 Australian Wine Companion') and our 2004 Pinot Noir (90 points from James Halliday, and our savoury French style 2005 Shiraz. Our tasting notes detail the style and sensory characteristics of the current release wines.

Visit our Vineyard & New Winery Cellar door

Our mudbrick winery cellar door adjoins the Cairn Curran Reservoir and overlooks the picturesque Loddon River valley and lake with its seasonal variations. We are only open BY PRIOR APPOINTMENT, and for a few open days and events each year. Please contact us should you wish to arrange a wine tasting session or private booking in our cellar room (gourmet tasting platters, light meals & wines by the glass or bottle available for groups by arrangement). Details of our cellar door openings are notified to our mailing list customers, or watch this space!

We are off the beaten track midway between Maldon and Newstead. See our location map. We also have an alternate cellar door at The Chapel Newstead for private groups, wine sales and light meals in the historic ambience-filled old church by arrangement.

Our Accommodation: The Chapel Newstead

We provide self-contained accommodation nearby at The Chapel Newstead, an 1860’s church recently been transformed into a contemporary light-filled two bedroom retreat (see web-link for more details). As featured in 'Beautiful Accomodation' - see PDF article.
